Thanks to its park, its gardens and its very mild climate, Arco, an elegant country town 5 kilometers far from the Northern Garda Lake, became a winter health resort in the Nineteenth Century for the European aristocracy, and it is considered, still nowadays, a real ecologic paradise and romantic refuge. Arco represents a microcosm of history and culture: all around liberty villas in elegant gardens and palaces of the Renaissance offer a picturesque view. In the historical center of Arco one has the chance to visit many monuments, as the Collegiate Church of St. Maria Assunta, but worth a visit are the Madonna delle Grazie Sanctuary and the annexed Franciscan monastery, built in 1492, in Ceole, hamlet of Arco. Walking across a secular olive-grove, in a rural atmosphere, it’s possible to reach the Castle of Arco (m. 278 a.s.l.), inhabited before the Middle Ages, built by the community's free nobles as a defense structure. Going down from this path, there is St. Apollinare’s church and on the opposite direction, along the so called Kurpromenade (now viale delle Magnolie and viale delle Palme), there is the wonderful iron and glass veranda (1900) of the Kursaal, today the Municipal Casino, place for congress and several events. Arco is well known all around Europe, together with the Sarca Valley, because of its hundreds of climbing trails adapted to different levels of skill and length. The climbing lovers can’t miss one of the most important event taking place in Arco every year: the Rock Master Festival. On the mountains and rocks around Arco, there are lots of “Iron paths”, and particularly interesting can be the easy equipped trail of the Monte Colodri (350m). Arco is the right place to go to if one is looking forward to having some adventurous experiences in the rivers and creeks, doing canyoning. Arco is also well known because of its main events taking place all year round: the Great Carnival; the Arco Bike Nature and the International Mountain Bike Race; the Concerts of “Pasqua Musicale Arcense”; the exhibition and congress for the “Arcobonsai”; the International Youth Climbing Festival - Rock Junior, which is an international race; the avantgarde dance and theatre in Dro; the grape-cure; the international astrological meeting of Astra; the Christmas Markets. Although Arco is 5 kilometers far from the lake, one of the most beautiful beaches of the Garda Lake belongs to Arc it is Lido di Arco. This beach lies between Torbole and Riva del Garda, at the foot of Monte Brione and thanks to the typical wind (Ora) blowing and caressing it, it has been equipped with surfing and sailing schools, with the opportunity to learn and improve these activities. But Arco is considered a paradise also because of the numerous routes for the mountain bikers and because of the several services offered. Besides Arco is not far from Malcesine and its panoramic cableway (another way offered to practice sport on the “Monte Bondone natural terrace”) and from Gardaland and Canevaworld. Then Arco is fully equipped with a good welcoming – structure (hotels, camping sites, B&B, apartments, restaurants) and with many shops and commercial centers, concentrated in the famous Via Santa Caterina.
